Key Facts About Solar Energy
Solar energy consists of the light and heat emitted by the sun, in the form of electromagnetic radiation.
With today’s technology, we are able to capture this radiation and turn it into usable forms of solar energy – such as heating or electricity.
Although one could go into technical dissertations on the subject of electromagnetic radiation, how it is converted into solar energy, and the exact qualities of its electromagnetic rays, this is not something the average person needs or wants to know.

Solar battery chargers have been around for decades, but their popularity has increased a lot in just the last two years. This is partially because of advancements in technology, and partially because of our increased awareness of the need to shift to cleaner renewable energy sources.
Advancements in technology have reduced the sizes and weights of solar panels, while increasing their efficiency. This makes it possible for small lightweight portable solar chargers to be produced. Another factor which plays a part in the rapidly expanding field of portable solar power, is the increased amount of electronic gadgets that we carry around.

Photovoltaic cells, shaped as black colored square pieces placed in an on a solar panel, are becoming more efficient with each passing day and their designs are getting more efficient at focusing sunlight in concentrated forms with the cost becoming less as well. They are much smaller in size compared to what was offered a few years back, hence it is possible to produce them for less. The price of solar power energy has reached the price of per hour per watt. That price was double less than two decades back.

I just came across this video of a recent solar power installation and green energy project which is being done in the Vatican. This video was very interesting and I think it sets a great example to the rest of the world!
The first solar panels have been installed on top of the papal audience hall at Vatican City. Pope Benedict XVI’s has made conserving the Earth’s resources an important concern of his papacy. (Sept. 29)

“Expensive” is just one of the words that people today use to describe bills. Ludicrous is the other word I’ve heard. It seems that every day, the cost of keeps getting higher and higher. Because of this, we all tend to look towards different energy sources. However, as our government will tell you, the search of different energy source is just not feasible enough to be explored by the government. There is also the problem of transition from conventional energy sources to the different energy sources. Many people are suspicious of any new methods and would prefer to stick with their conventional.

A “solar cell” is a device which changes sunlight into electricity. More technically, a solar cell is also referred to as a “photovoltaic cell.”
The term “photo” derives from the Greek word for “light,” and the term “voltaic” comes from the word “volt” which means “electrical force.” A “cell” is a small receptacle or container containing electrodes which generate power.
Thus, a photovoltaic cell is a container that creates electric force, through light.
Whereas a solar cell can generate electricity from any light source, its intended use is the collection of solar energy from the sun.
